I’m not sure where to start with this one…
We’ve been home a few days now and we’re both feeling more than a bit flat.
I’m supposed to have taken this week as an opportunity to get a head start on some new writing projects and the latest edition(s) of Tablet to Scoreboard, but the motivation – frankly – isn’t there.
I’m well aware that there’s a good chance that my employer might be reading this, so I’d like to stress that it’s not that I don’t care about the work I should be doing, it’s that I’m really struggling to find the motivation and creative inspiration. Big difference.
What do you do when an event that has taken up the better part of 18 months of your lives passes in what seems like the blink of an eye? How do you just slot back into everyday life after the enormous highs that the last three weeks granted you? I’m certainly struggling with it.
As the bulk of the wedding guests arrived home after leaving Bali, Emma and I received a stack of messages, each one all telling us to stay where we were if we could; that Melbourne (in particular) was cold, wet and miserable. Having lived through 41 Melbourne winters we knew what to expect when we arrived home. Looking back over these messages, it’s evident now that there was more than a few guests feeling exactly the way we do now when they got back to Melbourne a week before us.
I’m not saying it’s nice to know that some of the guests are a bit blue to be back at home, but I guess if the post-holiday blues are nearly universal, then it can only have been worth it to persevere with a fly-away wedding in a place like Uluwatu in Bali.
We want to thank everyone who made the holiday and the wedding such a success. And last, but by no means least; thank you, dear reader, for taking the time to follow our wedding adventures on these pages. I’ve loved hearing about how much you’ve enjoyed following the shenanigans, the ups, the downs and everything in between over the last three weeks.
We’ve been invited to attend nuptials in sunny California (Pasadena, if you don’t mind) later this year. If that comes to pass, you can be sure that Emma and the Big Boss will saddle up again and record it all here for you.
Terima kasih and sampai jumpa lagi!
